## What it is

Standard webcams sit on top of your monitor. Your client's face is in the middle of the screen. Every time you look at them, you look away from the camera — and they don't feel seen. The Calibra arm holds your own USB webcam at eye level, over the part of the screen where your client's face appears, so your gaze reads as direct eye contact.

You bring the camera; the arm positions it. It fits any USB webcam with a standard ¼"-20 thread.

## Why eye contact matters (the research)

Eye contact at the correct gaze angle isn't a preference — it's perceptual. Below 5–7° the gaze reads as direct; above that, it reads as looking away.

- **Tam et al. 2007 (J Telemed Telecare):** 87% of patients perceived better eye contact at a 7° gaze angle than at 15°. 92% said the difference mattered to them.
- **Chen 2002 (CHI Proceedings):** Humans cannot perceive a downward gaze angle below 5–7°. Above this threshold, gaze deviation becomes visible.
- **Grondin et al. 2020 (Counselling Psychology Quarterly):** A webcam at eye level with a 1.3 m sit-back distance reduces the gaze angle to ~2.5° — well below the perception threshold.

A webcam on top of a 24" monitor creates roughly a 15° gaze angle from your client's face on screen — well above the threshold where they read your gaze as direct.

## How it works — three steps, about three minutes

1. **Stick the mount.** Peel the 3M backing and press onto the back of your monitor. Hold for five seconds. (A VESA screw-in option is included if you prefer.)
2. **Attach the arm.** Slide the arm over the mount and tighten with the included tool. One screw, about ten seconds.
3. **Mount your webcam.** Thread your webcam onto the standard ¼"-20 adapter and position it where your client's face is on screen.

## One arm, three positions

The arm moves with you, even mid-session:

- **Eye contact mode** — Pull the camera close, over your client's face on screen. Best for intakes, new clients, and crisis sessions.
- **Routine mode** — Ease it back toward the edge for full-screen access. Best for established clients, follow-ups, and medication management.
- **Folded away** — Swing it out beside or behind the monitor for a clean desk and privacy. Best for charting, notes, and personal time.

## Camera compatibility

Fits any USB webcam with a standard ¼"-20 thread, including Logitech C920, C922, and Brio (4K); Insta360 Link 2; Opal C1; Elgato Facecam Pro; Anker PowerConf C200/C300; and Razer Kiyo. Rated for cameras up to 500 g with no sag.

## Calibra vs iContact Camera Pro

| | Calibra Arm | iContact Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Price | $88 | $189 |
| Camera | Use any USB webcam you own | Built-in (proprietary) |
| Arm articulation | Full ball head + arm joints | Fixed 4.25" arm |
| Adjusts by session type | Close for intake, back for routine | One position only |
| Beauty filters / effects | Your camera, your software | Mac-only companion app |
| Zoom Certified | No (your webcam handles compatibility) | Yes |
| All-in-one purchase | No — requires your own webcam | Yes — camera included |
| Privacy when not in use | Folds away, camera out of view | $8 lens cover sold separately |
| Restocking fee on returns | None | 15% |

iContact makes a fine camera. But you might already own a fine camera, and you don't want to be locked into someone else's optics, app, or price tag.

## FAQ

**Will my webcam fit?** If it has a standard ¼"-20 thread, yes. That covers Logitech C920, C922, Brio, Insta360 Link 2, Opal C1, Anker PowerConf C200/C300, Razer Kiyo, and most USB webcams made in the last decade.

**3M or VESA — which should I pick?** 3M adhesive works on any monitor or laptop and installs in under a minute. VESA is for a permanent screw-in install on a monitor with exposed VESA holes (75×75 or 100×100). Most therapists pick 3M.

**Is the 3M removable?** Yes. 3M VHB releases cleanly with mild heat (a hairdryer for 30 seconds) and dental floss worked behind the adhesive. No residue on your monitor.

**Will it hold a heavy camera like the Logitech Brio?** Yes. The arm is rated for cameras up to 500 g. Tested with the Logitech Brio (4K), Insta360 Link 2, and Anker PowerConf C300 with no sag.

**Is this HIPAA-compliant?** HIPAA compliance applies to your video platform (Zoom for Healthcare, Doxy.me, SimplePractice Telehealth, Headway) with a Business Associate Agreement — not to the webcam hardware. Calibra is hardware-only and HIPAA-neutral.

**What's your return policy?** 30 days, no restocking fee. If it doesn't work for your setup, send it back. We pay the return shipping.

## Reviews

4.9 out of 5 from 26 verified buyers of the Calibra arm (150+ arms shipped). A selection of real, unedited reviews:

- **Andy** (Jan 2026): "I don't usually leave reviews, but this absolutely deserves one… parts I fully expected to have to buy separately, extra/contingency pieces, and even the proper installation tools were all included. Nothing felt overlooked. It's obvious this was designed by someone who actually uses and understands the problem it's solving."
- **Andrea** (Mar 2025): "This webcam arm mount is EXACTLY what we were looking for! Easy to install, came with all the tools we needed. Folds behind the monitor when not in use, and extends back out to the perfect position every time."
- **samy** (Feb 2025): "My webcam used to be mounted on top of my monitor but it was way too high for me. This side-mounting solution is an engineering marvel… Filip worked with me and 3D printed me some longer washers. Great product that feels like it'll last for years."
- **Brian** (Jun 2026): "Great quality and attention to detail. Solved a major point of frustration for my webcam."
- **Jason** (Jul 2025): "Super easy to install, worked perfectly for me, as I had no way to mount cam on top of my monitor."
- **Ramil** (Feb 2026): "Above and beyond! No other words to describe it."
- **Keith** (May 2026): "Adhesive pad fell off after about 1 week, will have to find a better adhesive pad." *(Note: 3M VHB releases and re-sticks; a VESA mount is also included.)*
